As a lot of you may in fact already know, a large-scale “practical joke” was played on many of you and your fellow dA artists (including myself) last night by none other than the creator of the unknown artists group (
)
.
Last night (1st of March 2010 to be exact) I visited the
as I was finally able to upload my piece in the hopes of getting a chance to really get my work out there.
After a couple of minutes of surfing, I checked my
messages. There was a new blog entry by
. In said blog
described how excited he was about the coming month and its potential etc. and as per usual, there was a
artist promoted. ”check out this Deviant [link]”. I clicked on the said link.
My heart stopped.
It was my page!
MY OWN PAGE WAS ON THE FRONT PAGE OF ONE OF THE BIGGEST GROUPS ON
!!!
I shouted with such brimming enthusiasm that can be only be described with caps lock and over use of exclamation marks..
I immediately commented
personally and infamously called him a “legend” and ranted about how much of an honor and a privilege it was to be promoted like that. I then text my girlfriend
and my close friend
in a flurry of excitement and even showed my family members the page...
At this moment if you had clicked the link and are reading this now... you’re probably thinking “hey that sounds a lot like my story..” that’s because it IS your story and it’s the story of THOUSANDS of you who clicked that link last night. You were -most likely as I was- filled with overwhelming pride that you were finally getting your work out there on an international stage, only to have your hopes and dreams dashed and taken away from you in a humiliating fashion. Realizing that this happened to EVERY SINGLE PERSON that clicked on that link that night. The link just took us all back to our respective pages.
At the moment you’re probably festering with the fierce rage of an artist scorned, but I tell you, hold back your sharpened pencils from the heart of
.
Yes, he may very well have humiliated thousands of us, but we need to look past that and learn to laugh at ourselves!
But also think about this; that overwhelming feeling of pride (and possibly tears) that you were flooded with when you saw your very own page come up when you clicked that fateful link. I personally thank him for making me feel that impossible sense of pride that I had never felt before in my own artwork (no matter of how short-lived it may be).
Let that pride you felt for those brief moments inspire you as an artist and to spur you on to be more and more creative in the hope that, eventually, one day you’ll feel that same feeling of elation again as you grace the front page of
, for real this time.
But never forget how tirelessly
works to promote us as unknown artists in the fairest way possible, to give the amateurs like myself a chance- to give the voiceless a voice, to give us unknown artists an international audience!
So I hope you think about all this and recant on any hate-mail you may have sent because
has done so much for us!
Also my dedicated readers who have the patience to read this far ( I sincerely thank you for not falling asleep) we need to learn to laugh at ourselves for
has truly pulled the greatest prank I have witnessed here on
, and on thousands of us no less!
So put down your torches, pitchforks and sharpened pencils and reclaim your membership to
and applaud
for what he has done and consider yourself (as I consider myself) , utterly and truly “Rick-Rolled”.
Insanemac out.
